Paul Levitt, Chorale Conductor & Music Director, chorale@fmmc.org

See our 2011 concert review in the Examiner!

Founded in 1902 as a women’s chorus, the Chorale of the Friday Morning Music Club became a mixed chorus in 1986. Now beginning it’s third year under the direction of Mr. Paul Leavitt, the Chorale is continuing its efforts to become a major contributor to the Washington, DC musical scene. Mr. Leavitt is an accomplished pianist and composer. An abbreviated biography may be found here.

Mr. Leavitt has planned two Chorale specific concerts for the 2016-2017 season to be held at the Church of the Reformation in Washington, DC. The first concert (comprising two performances) will be held January 13 and 14. This concert will consist of works by American composers and will feature Dr. Stephen Burton’s I Have a Dream Cantata, which was commissioned by FMMC for the 100th year Anniversary. The concert also will include Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Barbers’ Agnus Dei where Barber set the words to his Adagio for Strings.

The second concert, also with two performances, will be held April 28 and 29 at the Church of the Reformation and will feature Leavitt’s Catata Emanuel. Further details are listed below in the Concerts section.

Soloist Opportunities

In addition to the chamber/solo music performance opportunities (click here for more information), soloists are encouraged to contact Mr. Leavitt at chorale@fmmc.org about opportunities to sing on Chorale concerts during the year.

Rehearsal Schedule

Chorale Rehearsals will commence on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 1:30 pm–4:00 pm. They will be located in the Church of the Reformation Parish Hall, 212 East Capitol Street, Washington, DC. The nearest metro stop is Capitol South on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines.

Joining the Chorale

Singers in all voice parts are encouraged to join the Chorale. Singers new to the Club and the Chorale can expect to be auditioned by Mr. Leavitt in order to establish capability and part placement.

Chorale Fund

While the majority of the Chorale’s operating budget is drawn from FMMC’s General Fund, the Chorale draws from a fund dedicated to its use. For information on how to contribute to the Chorale Fund, please go to our Donations page.
